For
more than a quarter-century, Jesus "Chuy" Navarro has
been servicing the auto electric needs of Southern California residents.
Chuy's business has evolved from working under umbrellas to owning
a large facility with many employees. At a young age of eight, while
other children were playing after school, Chuy began an apprenticeship
with a family friend.
Chuy
came to the United States from Mexico when he was only 16 years
old with a plan to work hard and to succeed. In the early years,
he would buy old starters and alternators from local wrecking yards
and rebuilt them. Chuy would buy close-out paint to coat the used
parts in a rainbow of colors. They would call him the paletero (ice-cream
man). Chuy would also make his own machinery to refurbish old parts.
Chuy
has revolutionized the capabilities of a basic alternator with a
high rating of 300 amps and continuous reliability.
Electricity is not only the basis for Chuy's occupation it is his
obesession. Chuy spends hours in his work shop experimenting with
new ways to recycle a car's energy. His fascination with electricity
has even caught the interest of NASA who requested an alternator
and sent a letter of recognition for his accomplishment.
Chuy's
reputation for honesty and innovation has helped his clientele grow
to include customers from rap stars to truck drivers, the masses
have come to know Chuy's Auto Electric as a major force in the the
automotive industry. Chuy's has become the shop with an innovative
approach to auto electric parts and service with a strong Los Angeles
history.
